POS Test Harness
A system to test POS changes before they reach the stores. It runs complete sales on a virtual terminal with the chain's real application, and checks the receipt, the sales records and the integrations.

What problem it solves
A small change to the POS system can affect a promotion, a payment method or a sales record nobody reviewed. Testing by hand takes time, never runs the same way twice and leaves little evidence, and integration failures, such as an authorizer that does not respond, are hard to reproduce. The test harness repeats each sale the same way and shows what changed.
What it does
- The real application
- Tests run on the chain's own sales application, with its customizations and configuration, on a virtual terminal in the lab.
- Recorded scenarios
- Make the sale once, by hand or with an AI assistant, save it as a scenario and repeat it on every release, with a pass or fail result.
- Whole-sale verification
- Checks the screens, the receipt, the sales records and their delivery to central systems against what each scenario expects.
- Simulated integration failures
- A service that does not respond or responds late, to see what the register does before it happens in a store.
- Release comparison
- Runs the same scenarios on two releases and shows what changed in the receipts and sales records.
- Evidence to share
- Each run leaves a report with the receipt, the records and the screens, with passwords and authorization numbers hidden.
- Configuration review
- Gathers the terminal's parameters, shows what uses each one and flags what does not add up.
- Map of what was tested
- Shows which register steps have been walked through, and which keys a step accepts that no test has used.
- Step-by-step diagnostics
- Each step of the sale keeps what the system wrote, what was exchanged with the integrations and what changed in the terminal's memory.
How it fits
It is installed in the chain's lab, not in the stores, and refuses to operate outside it. It is configured for each chain with its test items, its cashiers, its sales flows and the data that must stay hidden. The saved scenarios follow each release of the POS system.
